💭 3 Beliefs That Quietly Hold You Back (and How to Start Releasing Them)

We all carry stories about ourselves — quietly looping in the background like a soundtrack we don’t even notice anymore. Some of those stories empower us. But others? They keep us small. They make us doubt. They tell us we can’t, even when every part of us wants to.

In my work (and in my own healing), I’ve noticed that the most stubborn blocks aren’t always the loud, obvious fears — they’re the subtle, deeply embedded beliefs we’ve been repeating for years without even realizing it.

Let’s look at three of the most common ones I hear — and gently explore how to begin softening them.

1. “I’m not doing enough.”

This one shows up everywhere: in your work, your healing, your parenting, your relationships. It’s that constant background pressure whispering that you should be doing more, better, faster.

But here’s the truth: feeling like you’re constantly falling short doesn’t make you more productive or more loving. It just keeps you in a cycle of burnout and self-doubt.

If this belief is living in you, pause and ask:

Who taught me that rest equals failure? When did I start believing that my worth depends on how much I do?

Even just noticing this thought and naming it — “Ah, there’s that old belief again” — is an important first step in loosening its grip. And when you pair that awareness with gentle tools like EFT, your nervous system learns something new: that safety doesn’t have to come from over-performing.

2. “It’s too late for me.”

This one is heartbreaking, because it so often comes from a place of deep grief. You might not even say it out loud, but it colors the way you look at your goals, your desires, your potential.

Whether you’re 25 or 65, this belief can sneak in quietly — especially if you’ve spent a lot of time putting other people’s needs first or recovering from something difficult.

Growth has no timeline. Healing has no expiration date. There’s no “too late” when it comes to becoming more of yourself. There is no “too late” for YOUR life – no one has lived it before, and no one is you!

Let yourself ask:

What if the timing of my life has actually been unfolding exactly as it was meant to?

Letting that sink in can be revolutionary.

3. “People like me don’t get to have that.”

Again, heartbreaking, and utterly untrue. This one is often buried so deep, we don’t even hear it — but we feel it.

It’s the belief that joy, freedom, love, abundance, or peace is meant for ‘other people‘, but not you. People who grew up differently. Who look different. Who don’t carry what you carry.
These are deeply wired feelings of unworthiness — but no matter where they began, they’re not the truth of who you are. They never were.

And this is where EFT can be so powerful. These subconscious beliefs live in the body, in the nervous system — and when you gently meet them with presence and regulation, something incredible happens: the belief begins to lose its edge. A new reality becomes possible.

🌿 Let’s Bring Compassion to These Patterns

EFT is a powerful companion in this process because it doesn’t just speak to your mind — it speaks to your body, where these beliefs are actually stored. Limiting beliefs aren’t just ideas we think; they’re patterns we feel, deeply wired into our subconscious minds.

The tightness in your chest when you try something new.
The sinking in your stomach when you imagine failing.
The way you brace yourself, without even noticing, when something good starts to come your way. Waiting for the ‘other shoe to drop’.

These are all nervous system responses — and that’s exactly where EFT works. By tapping, we’re helping the body release stored tension, fear, and resistance. It’s like telling your whole system: “Enough of this – We’re safe to believe something new.”

And here’s the truly life-changing part: once the nervous system feels safe, the mind becomes more willing to open up to new possibilities!

That’s when things begin to shift. Beliefs that felt unshakable start to soften. You no longer default to self-doubt. You begin to envision new paths. And perhaps for the first time, you start to feel like the version of yourself who gets to have the life they desire. Whether you’re unravelling stories about self-worth, fear of failure, or feeling like you’re too late — EFT meets you gently and powerfully where you are, and helps you build something new from there.
